LilyPond sheet music
· 🕒
Formalizing musical notation as strings is interesting.
MusicXML is a practical interchange format, supported by applications such as MuseScore. However, it is too verbose to write by hand.
LilyPond notation is useful for writing simple scores. It is less interchangeable; few tools convert it to other formats.
There are many other formats as well:
Format
---
Music Macro Language (MML)
ABC notation
LilyPond notation
Guido notation
MEI
MusicXML
MNX
Below are fragments of LilyPond scores for traditional music.
